Alor dives sites are known for some
fast currents and the enormous fish,
Shark, and Giant grouper which inhabit
them. There are frequent caves,overhangs,
and steep wall drop offs with prolific
coverage of soft and hard coral, sponge,
and dense levels of reef fish.
Wetar Island is still largely unknown
and is a good exploration area. There
is a swift drift dive with a very colorful
wall between Wetar and Reong but
also quiet bays to explore critters too.
Gunung Api is a remotely located
volcano isolated in the deep waters of
the Banda Sea halfway between Wetar
and Lucipara island group. Here, waters
run as deep as 4600m. Large numbers
of Banded Sea kraits congregate around
this volcanic mass hunting for food in
the caves and crevices. Tuna, Mackeral,
and Barracuda actively patrol the slope
near the drop offs.
Meisol and Penyu Island groups,also
known as Lucipara, are very isolated
atolls groups located in the Banda Sea.
These atolls have sheer wall drop offs
as far down as 4600m. The fish life is
abundant and active with many
opportunities to see schooling Barracuda,
Trevally, Tuna, Shark, and Manta. There
are often large Turtles resting within the
shelves along the wall.
Seram Island has some active dive
sites with large numbers of schooling
Snapper, Trevally, and Tuna. Sandy
white bottom is host to a community of
Garden eels.
Banda Island group located in the
Maluku (Central) region. These small
islands feature spectacular wall dives
with a big display of colorful sponge
and lots of healthy hard and soft coral.
Many Mandarinfish dwell at the Banda
Niera jetty. Stunning visual display of
hard coral growth at the site of Black lava
flow site from the 1989 volcano eruption.
